Feverfew

Case
A 14-year-old with migraine headaches asks you if feverfew will help her have fewer headaches.
Question
Which of the following is TRUE about feverfew?
Answer C is correct.

In controlled trials, feverfew appears to offer significant benefit over placebo in preventing migraines. However, there are no controlled trials comparing feverfew to beta-blocker medications or hypnosis. It has no proven benefit in treating an existing headache and is not indicated as an acute therapy. It is not used historically as an acne remedy and there are no studies evaluating its use in treating acne. No long-term side effects have been noted with feverfew therapy, although sudden withdrawal may precipitate migraine headaches. The symptoms described in answer D are those associated with chronic use of kava kava.
