Not all the references found in herb and dietary supplement books are based on based on sound scientific evidence, and even those that have citations often have questionable scientific interpretations of secondary data. Most Internet sites on herbs are devoted to marketing specific products rather than providing unbiased scientific information. Mainstream medical journals have a rapidly growing amount of information on herbs and dietary supplements which can be found by searching Medline. Because many herbs have more than one common name, it is also important to search under the Latin name as well as the common name. There are several excellent, evidence-based journals such as Herbalgram, the Review of Natural Products, and Prescribers Letter.
